Chauncey Billups warned Clippers

The Clippers ignored Chauncey Billups warning shot and claimed the veteran point guard.

Earlier today the headline was Chris Paul to the Clippers and then once again the trade didn’t happen.  To make a long story short the Clippers ended up claiming Chauncey Billups after he clearly send a warning shot out to all the teams saying do not sign me off waivers.

Billups said that he would go as far as to intentionally disrupt the locker room of a team that claims him.  I presumed it meant he would sign with the Heat but the Clippers pulled the shocker.

From Detroit to Denver to New York to Los Angeles it can’t be easy for Billups to keep moving his family all over the country.  Either Mr. Big Shot is plotting his revenge right now or he takes a look at the roster and realizes that he just came into a pretty good situation as the sideshow in L.A.

Chauncey Billups, Eric Gordon, Caron Butler,  Blake Griffin, and Chris Kaman are a nice starting 5.  As long as Butler comes back healthy and Griffin stays healthy.. this team will be dangerous.  Billups will have to be healthy as well after injuries caught up to him last season in the playoffs.

Gordon, 22 points 4 ast/game last season, is a young all-star level talent that will light you up and is strong enough to take you to the hoop.  Griffin is one of the most dominating forces in basketball.  Griffin put in 22 points and 12 rebounds last season and proved to be a man among men.  His numbers barely dropped off in his rookie season from his last year at Oklahoma.  With such a high motor and rebounding at the level he does, Griffin could be the best power forward in the game sooner than later.  That gives Chauncey two stars to work with right there and there’s more.

The depth is one of the reasons why the Clippers have a chance to do some damage out West.  Eric Bledsoe, point guard out of Coach Cal U, will be a nice backup for Billups.  Al-Farooq Aminu is a 6’9 small forward with tremendous upside and DeAndre Jordan is ready to be a starter right now.  Jordan can’t hit a free-throw but he is 7’0 and freskishly athletic.  The Clippers tried to trade this nice young depth along with Kaman and Gordon today for one player, Chris Paul.  Also coming off the bench is Mo Williams who can give you spurts of offense in that role.

I would expect Billups to give the Staples Center’s second act a chance if they guarantee him a starting spot and once he see’s all the talent that is on the roster and realizes a chance to compete.  Especially if he can still play a whole year without injury it could be a good move for both parties involved.
