Danny Ainge shows Rondo no love
Danny Ainge commented “Rondo knows we love him,” when asked why the Celtics were trying to shop Rajon Rondo for Chris Paul at the Celtics press conference today. Rondo is a sensitive guy. How many times is he going to hear his name in trade rumors without letting it break his spirit? There’s a certain level of respect a player of Rondo’s caliber deserves and Danny Ainge isn’t giving it.
Chris Paul has already said he wont sign an extension with the Celtics so the deal isn’t going to go down but if Rondo were on my team, I am not trading him. He is an elite level point guard and is a year younger than Paul. The one real weakness in his game is his inability to hit a consistent jump shot but he shoots near 50% from the field every year.
Rondo’s playmaking skills are phenominal, he is one of the most creative guys in the game with the ball in his hands. He averaged 11.5 assists per game last season and two steals. He possesses extremely long arms that allow him to be one of the better rebounding guards in the game and can always makes the NBA all-defensive team. He’s good for triple-doubles.
I don’t understand why Ainge would risk hanging Rondo out for a trade time and time again. The Celtics should try and get some pieces by trading Avery Bradley and Jeff Green if they want to make a move so bad. Trade anybody but your youngest, best player. I see no reason why if I am the GM of a team I would even contemplate anyone else playing the point guard position in Boston. There’s obviously going to be some rebuilding in Boston over the next few years with Garnett, Allen, and Pierce getting old but if you have an all-pro point guard you don’t put his name out there every time you see a player you like.
Rajon Rondo – 2 time all-star, 3 time all-defensive team, and one time NBA CHAMPION.
